The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) invites applications for a Research Assistant position to work on the research project “Europeanization of National Competition Policies (EURONCP)”, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities (Programa Estatal de Generación de Conocimiento y Fortalecimiento Científico y Tecnológico del Sistema de I+D, Proyectos de I+D de Generación de Conocimiento, Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades). EURONCP investigates the observed variation in the Europeanization of national competition policies, both in the European Union and beyond. The project is led by Prof. Yannis Karagiannis (IBEI). Prof. Mattia Guidi (University of Siena, Italy) and Prof. Jacint Jordana (IBEI and UPF) form part of the team.
We are seeking candidates with a background in political science, economics, or law, and with a keen interest in working on issues pertaining to competition (antitrust) policy. The position requires fluency in English and Spanish, working knowledge of either Dutch, French or Russian, and the willingness to become familiar with both quantitative and qualitative techniques.
The Research Assistant will contribute to EURONCP by analyzing the evolution of European and national competition policies over the past 30 years. Concretely, candidates will work on two sub-projects, both of which have been defined as thematic priorities:
(a) The accommodation of sustainability (climate change) concerns in national competition policies; and
(b) The power of international incentive schemes, such as those created by the European Union to foster the adoption and enforcement of competition policy in candidate and/or third countries.
The work commitment is of 200 hours between November 2023 and January 2024. The starting date is flexible but ideally no later than November 15, 2023. Remuneration is commensurate with a PhD grant under the Spanish government fellowship system.
Applications must be submitted by October 6, 2023 (10.00 am Barcelona time).
🖊️ Applications must be submitted through the Application Form and it should include:
- A letter of interest
