1. Why did you choose IBEI Master’s?

I chose IBEI because of the great opportunities it offers. Its strong reputation, excellent professors, and high-quality courses made it the perfect place to learn and grow. I liked that we could choose from a wide range of subjects, including the International Development and International Security track, which helped me expand my knowledge. The international atmosphere was another highlight—studying with people from all over the world in one of my favourite European cities made the experience even more rewarding.

2. What is your experience at IBEI?

My year at IBEI was an incredibly enriching experience. I had the opportunity to build lasting friendships and expand my professional network while learning from highly skilled professors with both academic and field expertise. Coming from a different academic background, I especially appreciated their ability to make complex international relations topics accessible and engaging. The combination of seminars and lectures, along with the challenging exercises, created a dynamic and stimulating learning environment.

Additionally, I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in a study abroad program at PUC Rio de Janeiro, one of IBEI’s partner universities. The option to take part in an exchange within the Master’s program added even more depth to my academic journey. My time at IBEI was truly unforgettable.

3. Describe your career path since graduating from the IBEI

While finishing my thesis at IBEI, I began the Blue Book Traineeship at the European Commission in the European Green Deal Cabinet under Executive Vice President Timmermans. After this experience, I took a short break to travel, as I had been continuously engaged in internships and studies since my Bachelor's.

I then returned to Barcelona and worked as a Communications Officer at EuroEconomics. While I enjoyed my colleagues, I found the role insufficiently challenging. I began applying for other positions and was luckily offered the Public Affairs internship at the NATO Defense College. I completed the internship from mid-September 2024 to mid-February 2025, and since March 2025, I have been serving as a Public Affairs Officer at the College, and I love it here. The international environment, and the topics I get to work on, are very interesting and rewarding.

4. How did the master programme prepare you for the work you're doing now?

The combination of academic depth and real-world insights gave me a strong foundation to navigate complex global issues and to understand the work-environment I am in now. Learning from experienced professors, engaging with diverse perspectives, and tackling real challenges sharpened my critical thinking and adaptability. My time at IBEI not only expanded my knowledge but also equipped me with the skills and confidence to thrive in an international environment.

5. Is this more or less what you pictured yourself doing after the master programme?

During my Master’s studies, I never imagined I would be working in the Public Affairs Office of the NATO Defense College. Securing the Blue Book traineeship was already an incredible achievement, but joining a NATO entity feels like a dream come true. I truly enjoy contributing to something meaningful and seeing the tangible impact of my work.

6. What advice would you give to current students who want to follow this career path? / Some advice to future IBEI students?

Do your best and apply to different international positions and internships. Our field is highly competitive, so it's important to showcase your worth and talent. It can be discouraging to receive rejections, but remember, sooner or later, you will get a "yes." Believe in yourself and advocate for your value, especially the women in our field, because it is not easy. Keep pushing forward, stay confident, and never lose sight of your goals—you have the potential to make a real impact.

7. What do you miss most about IBEI?

The people. The environment. The lectures and seminars, I loved to attend them. And finally, Barcelona.
