2018 edition | Barcelona Summer School in Global Politics, Development and Security

Dates

The summer school is taking place in June 20-29, 2018.

Location

The Barcelona Summer School on International Security will be held at IBEI, Mercè Rodoreda Building (24), Campus Ciutadella (UPF), Ramon Trias Fargas 25-27, Barcelona (Spain).

Delivery of Courses 

Each 10 hour course will take place in two hour sessions per day during one week. Each 6 hour course will take in two hour sessions per day during three days. Besides this schedule, there will be time planned for personal interactions with professor where you can take the opportunity to comment your research or project with one of these prime academic figures of the International Relations field.

  • Early bird discount: an additional 10% discount for full payments received on or before 10 June 2018.

Scholarships

A number of scholarships to cover full or half course fees will be available.  

In addition to the application requirements, to apply for a scholarship, interested persons must send to IBEI until 10th May 2018, a letter of interest and a recommendation letter. Scholarship will be communicated before 15th May.

Certificate

At the conclusion of the Summer School, participants will receive a certificate for the number of hours attended. All IBEI courses require an average of twice the lecture hours for readings, pre-readings and class preparation. Upon previous request, IBEI faculty can provide an assessment of the courses, and the grade obtained can be included into the certificate, in case students aim to transfer them into ECTS credits.

ECTS Credits

Participants have the opportunity to gain ECTS credits if they are recognized by their universities.

10 hour course:  2 credits = Complete the course + daily assignments / project work

6 hour course: 1 credit = Complete the course + daily assignments / project work

Cancellation and Refund Policy

If a registered participant chooses to withdraw from any course, they should contact IBEI for informing us. Withdrawals are eligible for a partial refund in line with these criteria:

  • Before Monday 18 June 2018: 75% of tuition fees
  • From Monday 18 June to Wednesday 20 June 2018: 50% of tuition fees (extended until Friday 22 June 2018 for those courses starting in June 25)
  • After Wednesday 20 June 2018: No refund (extended until Friday 22 June 2018 for those courses starting in June 25)
  • Only due to exceptional circumstances such as illness or denial of visa, the refund could be 100% of the tuition fees

In the unlikely event that a course on the Summer School is cancelled, participants registered for that course will be offered a place on an alternative course, or a full refund of their tuition fees. Registered participants will be informed as early as possible if a course is at risk of cancellation. In any case, IBEI is not able to refund the cost of flights, accommodation, visas or other items.
