The 2019 REEDES (Spanish Network of Development Studies) Award to the Best Master's Final Dissertation in Development Studies has been awarded to the IBEI student Emily Jones for her project 'Biometrics: An opportunity or a threat for humanitarianism? A consideration of what has driven UNHCR to adopt biometric technology, and Oxfam to prohibit it' in the framework of the IBEI Master's in International Development during the course 2018-19.

The REEDES jury emphasizes that it is a project that moves between the IR and the Public Administration on a novel problematic, not explored much, and rightly grounded in studies of development and its actors. It combines a sober style with a solid literature review, which projects a maturity that stands out for a Final Research Project. Although the structure used is unique, with few changes it could be published in an academic journal.

The Award to the Best Master's Final Dissertation in Development Studies aims to promote research in this field within the framework of the master's programs of the REEDES partner institutions, as well as to promote works that may help to create new research lines.
