The IEN and IBEI Renew the North American Studies Programme on American Politics and International Security
The IEN - IBEI programme on American politics and international security was created in 2020 jointly by the Institut d’Estudis Nord-americans (IEN) and the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI). Coordinated by Jeffrey Michaels (IEN Senior Fellow at IBEI), it aims to promote the city of Barcelona as a relevant meeting place for American studies, attracting top international experts and academics for reflection and debate, with special attention to the implications of US foreign policy in the European and Mediterranean framework.
On July 9, 2024, the agreement was renewed for four more years, allowing for the continued promotion of reflection and research from Barcelona on US foreign policy and international security.
The programme will deepen the knowledge of strategic, geopolitical, and socio-economic aspects relevant to this topic. The agreement also allows for the establishment of relationships and networks with American researchers and research centers specialized in the programme's areas of interest, consolidating Barcelona as a hub for American studies. Furthermore, it facilitates participation in public, academic, and expert debates on US foreign policy and its global implications, with special attention to the consequences for Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as transatlantic relations, widely using media dissemination.
Over the years, the programme has promoted a number of activities aimed at attracting international visibility and achieving academic prestige, as well as in the fields of training and dissemination.
