Barcelona Workshop on Global Governance 2020

Viernes 24 de enero de 2020, de 9:30 a 17:45
24 de enero: IBEI - Aula 24.S18, Sala Polivalent (Sótano). Edificio Mercè Rodoreda 24
Conferencia

Global cooperation has become increasingly complex. Institutional overlaps and interlinkages are becoming more common. In some cases, these have generated conflict and systemic effects that undermine the effectiveness of cross-border rules and the scope for accountability. Yet, in others, governance entrepreneurs have fostered connections between institutions, trying to manage tensions and build bridges between previously distinct governance arrangements. Our knowledge of these dynamics has improved over the past few years, but many questions remain:

  • How can we conceptualize different kinds of institutional interactions?
  • What drives dynamics of change within certain kinds of inter-institutional relationships?
  • What are the broader impacts of these developments for the effectiveness and accountability of both individual institutions and regimes?
  • How can linkages between governance arrangements be made more productive?

In this iteration of the Barcelona Workshop on Global Governance we seek to explore these difficult but pressing questions, bringing together a dynamic group of scholars working on them from different theoretical approaches and analytical traditions.

The Barcelona Workshop on Global Governance is a venue for the study of global governance—its dynamics, effects, and problems—from an interdisciplinary perspective, bringing together scholarship from international relations, law, sociology, anthropology, political theory, public administration and history. Its 6th edition will be held on 23 and 24 January 2020 in Barcelona.
