IBEI Study Trip to Geneve 2024

On the 6th and 7th of June, a group IBEI Students travelled to Geneva as part of the 2024 edition of the IBEI Study Trip. This was a great opportunity for them to find out more about international organizations and their day-to-day work, and also to meet with diplomats and practitioners that work at diplomatic missions.

The first visit took place at the United Nations Office at Geneva, where Mr. David Diaz Martin, Public Information Officer, presented the mission of The Human Rights Council. The visit was followed by a guided tour of the Palais des Nations.

Afterwards, where Mr. Pierre Etienne Bourneuf, who works at the UN Library & Archives Geneva, delivered the presentation “The UN: a hub for multilateralism”.

In the afternoon, students visited the World Health Organization where they were introduced to the organisation, its mandate, the public health challenges and priorities, and international legal instruments, followed by a Q&A session.

On the second day, students visited the World Trade Organization (WTO) and attended a presentation covering the history, functions, and current work of the organisation, followed by a question-and-answer session by Mr. Fernando Puchol, WTO Communications Officer.

Afterwards, they visited the Geneva Graduate Institute, where Ms. Eleanor Openshaw, ISHR Program Director, explained the work of ISHR and had an informal chat with the students.

The trip ended with the presentation on how to maximise the opportunities for getting a job in international affairs by Mr. Diego Gutiérrez, Head of External Academic Affairs at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.
