In international
discourse about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the situation in the
territories occupied by Israel
after the 1967 war is increasingly described as closely analogous to apartheid
in South Africa
before the advent of majority rule. What
were the main elements of the apartheid regime?
How in fact do they compare with the system of control now operative in
the occupied territories? Are the
differences morally significant?
Whatever the differences can the current arrangements be justified
morally or legally? What was the trajectory of events that produced the status
quo? What are the parameters of a just resolution of the current
situation?
