Biografía

José Ignacio Távara is Professor at the Economics Department of the Catholic University of Peru (PUCP). Dr. Távara holds a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA; a Master in University Policy and Management, Universitat de Barcelona and PUCP;   a Master in Economics at PUCP and a Bachelor of Sciences at the National University of Engineering, Lima. He has served in the Peruvian public sector as Deputy Minister for Communications, Vice President of OSIPTEL (regulatory agency in telecommunications), member of the board of directors of OSINERGMIN (regulatory agency in energy), President of the Tribunal of Appeals on Energy and Mining, member of the Council of Advisors on Radio and TV (CONCORTV) and Deputy Ombudsman for Utilities at the Office of the Peruvian Ombudsman. He also served as President of the Consortium for Social and Economic Research (CIES). Formerly Academic Director for Economics at PUCP, Senior Associate at Saint Antony's College, Oxford University. He has worked as a consultant for business associations, public agencies and multilateral organizations, and has published several articles on issues mostly related to small-scale production and industrial development, antitrust policies and regulatory reform in Peru. He is currently a member of the board of directors of the Center of Research and Promotion of the Peasantry (CIPCA), a Jesuit NGO.
