During the course of the academic year 2018/19 IBEI hosts a series of lectures by practitioners in the field of international relations and development.

The practitioner lecture series is intended to give IBEI students and attendees an opportunity to engage with international professionals about their personal work experience, the organizations they represent, and to learn about possible career trajectories in international governmental and non-governmental organizations. Each lecture will allow ample room for questions and inputs from the audience. All IBEI community is welcome.

With over 25 years of Public Diplomacy experience, John Hishmeh has spent his career programming and promoting international educational exchange programs as means to build mutual understanding and directly engage with foreign audiences to explain and advance U.S. foreign policy. Mr. Hishmeh is an Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Jordan. His past Foreign Service career assignments include positions in Guatemala, Trinidad and Tobago and Washington, D.C. Prior to the Service, he served as Executive Director for the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel, an independent accreditation organization that promotes international high school exchange programs. Mr. Hishmeh also worked in the Civil Service at the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Information Agency on Fulbright Exchanges, Outreach Programs and Congressional Affairs. He has an MA from the Johns Hopkins University and a BA from the University of Maryland. He lives in Amman with his wife and two daughters.
