Johannes Bauer (Michigan State University )
Johannes M Bauer is a researcher, writer, teacher, and academic entrepreneur. He is professor and chair of the Department of Media and Information at Michigan State University. He is educated as engineer and social scientist with a PhD in economics from the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, Austria. Michigan State University has been his home institution since 1990. He had spent extended periods at other universities, including the Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands (2000-2001), the University of Constance, Germany (Summer 2010), and the University of Zurich, Switzerland (2012).
His research, teaching and writing focus on the digital economy, with a particular interest in how the benefits of information and communication technologies (ICTs) can be fully utilized while their potential downsides can be avoided. Much of his work is international and comparative in scope. Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Ford Foundation, and other organizations, his research is published in leading journals in the field, such as Information Economics and Policy, Government Information Quarterly, Information Systems Frontiers, the International Journal of Communications, Telecommunications Policy, and The Information Society.
