Anna Fieldhouse is a PhD scholar from the Australian National University’s School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet). Anna’s PhD research focuses on a class of regulatory intermediaries – civil society as beneficiary intermediaries – active in the governance of privatised welfare services in Australia. She is interested in the ways in which civil society seeks to address persistent welfare failure from within the governance systems. In particular, her research examines the idea of representation-craft as used by civil society to act on behalf of citizens in regulatory governance.
During her visit she hopes to extend her work beyond the Australian context and draw on the work of the faculty in developing her theoretical understanding of representation in non-majoritarian governance spaces, regulatory intermediaries, and trust, distrust and mistrust in governance relationships.
