The course cluster on conflict and conflict resolution approaches in the Mediterranean and Middle East is organised and run by the Peace Research Institute Oslo. It is designed to address conflict as one of the key themes of the regional reality with a dual objective: First, to offer a critical appraisal of various key aspects of conflict in the area and their resolution efforts, complementing theory with the actual experience from practice on the ground. Second, to suggest novel ways of thinking about conflict resolution, highlighting neglected aspects and proposing innovative ways of dealing with the different challenges. The course cluster is intended to complement the content of the other subjects by connecting the dots between the various topics, establishing linkages between them and recommending ways of integrated responses drawing from international best practices and their application in negotiated cases as well as current flashpoints.
