Biography
Michele Piccinetti is a PhD student in Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Siena, Italy, where he completed his undergraduate studies. His research focuses on social policies, political economy, and welfare state dynamics, with a particular emphasis on the Insider/Outsider dilemma. Michele analyzes the evolution of employment policies, especially unemployment benefits and active labor market policies (ALMPs), and how they interact with political ideologies. A key aspect of his work is examining the behavior of "outsiders" (unemployed and temporary workers) and their voting patterns in response to political proposals, particularly in relation to party manifestos on employment policies. In addition to his doctoral work, he is a visiting researcher at the Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI), where he further explores the intersection of political economy, welfare policies, and electoral behavior. Throughout his academic career, he has developed strong skills in quantitative analysis, working with large datasets, including the European Social Survey (ESS), and applying advanced statistical techniques, primarily in R. Michele also has a publication on the allocation of PNRR funds.
