This practitioners’ seminar with Dr Anna Barrera will be an opportunity to become familiarised with the key skills required to apply for jobs and to work in international organisations – both big and small ones. We will look at the spectrum of possible tasks that are performed in international organisations, as well asa realistic idea of the actual daily work in this workplace. Anna Barrera will also offer insights in two international organisations in which she has gained valuable work experiences (UN WOMEN and the EU-LAC Foundation). Afterwards, we open the seminar up for a Q&A.

Anna Barrera Vivero is a Political Scientist specialising on the relations between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean. He holds a Doctor (Dr. phil) in Political Science from the University of Hamburg and GIGA Institute of Latin American Studies. As Director of Programmes in the EU-LAC Foundation (Hamburg, Germany), she coordinates bi-regional initiatives in the fields of scientific cooperation, gender equality, just transitions, multilateralism and culture. She is author of several articles and a book focusing on human rights of indigenous women and legal pluralism in the Andean Region. Over the past 15 years, Dr Barrera worked both in academic institutions (SFB 700 Collaborative Research Centre "Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood" – Free University Berlin; German Latin American Studies Association (ADLAF); Bucerius Law School Hamburg) and in the realm of international development cooperation (UN WOMEN, Adveniat, GLS Future Foundation for Development).
