The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) invites applications for one Research Assistant Position to work on the project "Institutional responses to the changing European security order (inRESPONSE)", funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (Proyectos de I+D de Generación de Conocimiento). The specific research under this call will focus on what factors lead to the breakdown of the European security order with the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and what institutional responses have been given by the three preeminent intergovernmental security providing organizations in Europe: EU, NATO and OSCE.

We are seeking candidates at post-graduate / pre-doctoral level, preferably with demonstrated prior knowledge of issues related to European security order from the vantage point of International Relations. We especially welcome applicants with strong theoretical knowledge in Political Geography or Political Communication, as well as some training in qualitative research methods. Applicants with a proven track record of academic writing skills are preferred.

The responsibilities of the prospective Research Assistant will include assisting the principal investigator in data compilation, interview work, generating content for and maintaining the project website and literature reviews. The Research Assistant will also be involved in the set-up and organization of different events related to dissemination of the project outputs. The project emphasizes capacity-building and the Research Assistant will acquire valuable skills in terms of project management and training in advanced research techniques to support her future career development.

The work commitment is flexible, between 10-20 hour/week for 6 months, with possibility of extension by up to one year upon satisfactory performance. The start date is negotiable but should be no later than early March 2024. Remuneration is commensurate with a PhD grant under the Spanish government fellowship system (pro rata).
