Building International Actorness and Foreign Policy in Contemporary Spain
Spain’s participation in the international system has evolved from a determining power to an agenda issue, culminating in the international dimension of the Spanish Civil War. The subsequent political regime’s absence from framing the post WWII institutional order conditioned Spain’s international position and foreign policy until the 1970s. The transition to democracy was complemented by the external transition towards realising Spain’s full potential as an international actor and of its foreign policy. Dr Montobbio will focus on the challenges, paradigms, phases and achievements of this process, as well as future issues and challenges.
