United in Knowledge: EU-Latin America Academic Synergies (EULAS)

From December 1, 2024 to October 30, 2028

Grant number101177067

The EULAS (United in Knowledge: EU-Latin America Academic Synergies) project is an initiative funded under the Jean Monnet Networks in Higher Education program, part of Erasmus+. It brings together 24 prestigious higher education institutions from across the European Union (9), Latin America (14), and the Caribbean (1). The central objective of EULAS is to enhance academic collaboration and dialogue between the EU and the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) regions, focusing on critical global issues such as trade, investment, sustainable development, climate change, biodiversity, human rights, and democracy.

EULAS employs an innovative network structure consisting of seven interlinked work packages, designed to foster the creation and dissemination of cutting-edge knowledge on the EU’s foreign policy and its intersection with LAC affairs. These work packages explore crucial themes, including the impact of populism on democracies, human rights, sustainability policies, and cooperation in health and education. Furthermore, the project promotes gender equality and geographical diversity among the partner institutions, thus enriching the discourse with a wealth of new perspectives and experiences from the LAC region.

The EULAS project plans to organize high-impact activities, including conferences and seminars in key LAC countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, and Chile. These events will feature educational training sessions, the creation of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), and the production of teaching materials, including textbooks and research publications. A robust dissemination strategy will ensure the wide-reaching impact of the project, leveraging digital platforms, social media, blogs, newsletters, webinars, podcasts, and videos to engage both academic and public audiences.

EULAS also aims to strengthen the EU's external effectiveness and legitimacy, particularly in challenging times. It provides a vital space for reflection and analysis of EU policies towards LAC. Through this cross-regional partnership between universities and research institutions, EULAS will foster greater mutual understanding and facilitate knowledge exchange, and thus contribute to shaping a more interconnected future, strengthening international relations, and promoting joint development efforts between the EU and LAC regions.
